Otter Creek – Staying near Brandenburg (OC Campground is closed till 4 / 1 / 2022) – Day fishing the park waters – (J Lillard / J Randall)
Plans are to stay at the Golden Manor Inn & Suites. I spoke to them on 12/19/2022. Rooms will be approximately $50/person with double occupancy (2 Queen beds) or $100 if you want a room by yourself. The inn has a nice restaurant on site (separate from hotel). The Backstreet Cafe is highly rated on the Web (4 out of 5 stars). Rooms have a mini fridge and a microwave. The inn also has an indoor pool with a Spa pool / hot tub. I confirmed that it is operational/open year round. It is located very near Otter Creek, at the intersection of Old Mill Road (1683) and Dixie Highway. You can see that if you navigate, zoom over/out on the map below.
I (Jack) plan on heading down on Friday, 1/13 mid-day, fishing the afternoon a little if light holds up that day. Then checking in at the hotel. I plan on staying and fishing through Sunday and maybe fishing Monday morning, since Monday, 1/16, is MLK day and our office is closed. This is a great learning trip for newbies, especially for colder weather! You can also come and fish just on Saturday or Sunday and make it a one-day trip. Logistics is on you for that but be glad to arrange a meet & fish if you have never been to Otter Creek.
You will need a valid Ky Fishing License and an Otter Creek permit for the days that you intend to fish (KDFW Licenses including Otter Creek Permit).
If the inn is too pricey for some folks there are Motel-8-like motels available at a cheaper rate.
I will take care of reserving rooms if you let me know your plans (859.512.5583 / nkff.fly.fisher@gmail.com).

I am interested. But are there a few more details? Looks like one or two night’s lodging somewhere.

Please let me know you have signed up as soon as possible! With the holidays happening so close to this trip I may not be online much. Thanks, Jack Randall
Jack, I joined NKFF months ago but haven’t been to a single event. I always seem to have conflicts… Poor excuse I know. I’m interested in this Otter Creek trip, but I’ve never been on this river, and I’ve not done any cold-weather fly fishing. Would we be casting streamers or nymphs? What species of fish? Could I buddy up with someone to help with fly selection and river access points?
Tom Gier and plan to go, but made our own reservations.
Hope to see everyone there!
Hey, Jack,
I registered for this trip. Please include me in any updates to plans. Otherwise, I’ll see you in a few weeks!
