Event Type

You don’t want to miss this great opportunity to fish a new section of Gunpowder Creek on property recently purchased by the Boone County Conservation District. Our host will be Mark Jacobs, Director of Conservation for the Boone County Conservation District and an accomplished fly fisher.

This property has not been opened to the public yet. The Boone County Conservation District is opening the property to NKFF for just one day, Sunday, October 20th.

We will meet at 8:00 a.m. and fish for a few hours. Gunpowder Creek is known for its feisty smallmouth bass and bluegill, so this is a great opportunity to use and improve your stream fishing skills.

If you don’t have gear yet, we will have extra rods & reels. No need to bring waders. Just wear boots or shoes that you don’t mind getting wet.

Following fishing, one of the educators from the Conservation District will help us explore the macroinvertebrates (bugs) that inhabit the creek. They will also do some electrofishing so that we can get a better understanding of the fish population diversity in the creek.

Date: Sunday, October 20th

Time: 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Location: 2588 Camp Ernst Ln., Burlington, KY 41005

Camp Ernst Ln will be off Camp Ernst Road just south of Camp Ernst Lake. Look for it after you cross the bridge on your right. We will have an NKFF sign at the entrance to the lane. Go all the way back until it dead ends.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  You will need to be on the sign-up list so please register or you may not be able to access the property.  If you have any trouble signing up, please contact me, Jack Randall, (nkff.fly.fisher@gmail.com / 859.512.5583).

Hope to see you there!

  1. I plan on bringing 1–3 kids. Also, I have a severe red meat & dairy allergy. So I will now be able to partake in most things from the cookout, but my kids would be happy to.

  2. Hi Rai,
I noticed that you have food allergies to red meat and dairy products. Thanks for letting us know. We will provide something for vegetarians/vegans…..should have thought of that ourselves.
What suggestions do you have for a grill out…..We will grill some veggies. Are you OK with olive oil? Would love your suggestions because this will help menu planning for others as well.
    Many thanks……Tim
