NKFF NEWS AND NOTES – May 2025

  1. May Meeting – Thursday May 1. Chili Cookoff at New Day Ranch 4838 Rosenstiel
Road, Verona, KY. 41092 An NKFF tradition started by Craig Troescher many years
ago. Lots of fun and lots of good chili. If you bring chili also bring whatever condiments
you would like served with it. There will be a prize for the winning chili! Please let us
know if you are bringing chili. Those who bring chili have no admission fee. Otherwise,
$12.00 per person. We also need volunteers to bring dessert! Cookies, cake or
whatever you feel like. Especially if it’s Brazilian Carrot Cake like last year (Thanks
    again to Milton’s wife!)
  2. David Williams recap. David Williams spoke to the Club in April and offered some
great information on early season fishing for larger smallmouth bass. See the separate
    summary of David’s points.
  3. Meal Management. For the convenience of members, the Club has continued the “pay-at-
the-door” meeting and meal option though pre-payment is a lot easier for the intake and
treasury volunteers. We do ask that even if you pay in advance, you check in upon arrival at a
meeting so we can get an accurate count. Also, if you register for a meal as pay-at-the-door,
the Club orders a meal for you. If you cannot come and do not cancel before 5:00 on the
Monday before the meeting, we cannot notify the caterer and the meal must be paid for.
Beginning with the June meeting, if you order a meal as a pay-at-the-door, and do not cancel
before Monday at 5:00, you will be billed for the $20.00.
  4. Upcoming Trips. White Bass season is upon us. Hopefully the water will recede and we
can catch the run at the Whitewater just past Liberty, Indiana. It’s great fun. Anyone who fishes
there, please let us know if they are running!
  5. June Meeting. At Middleton Mills Park.
  6. July Meeting. At Pioneer Park on Thursday July 10.
  7. August. No meeting.
  8. 2025 Banquet. Planning is beginning. Fair warning – we will be looking for help!
  9. New Positions. Anna Zinkhon has graciously agreed to assume the Treasurer’s role. Tim
Guilfoile is having hand surgery in May, after the Michigan trip, and will be without the use of his
hand for several months. Joe Hamilton has kindly agreed to take on the Club Communications

that Tim has been handling for several years using Constant Contact. Many thanks to Anna and
Joe!

  1. Shotgun Enthusiasts. I have become acquainted with a fine gentleman who is a
collector of and enthusiast for traditional side by side shotguns. If you have such an
interest or would like to cultivate one, I can put you in touch with my friend. Email me at
dave.devita@nkff.org. My friend lives in Missouri.
